General Information

Kommatas & Associates represents companies and individuals in all types of litigation and alternative dispute resolution arising across our main areas of practice, including commercial, employment and real estate.

More specifically, our law firm has considerable expertise in representing clients in all types of contractual claims and disputes arising from commercial agreements, including agency, distribution, franchising, shareholders’, partnership and joint venture agreements. We also undertake the enforcement of judgments obtained abroad in Greece as well as debt recovery proceedings.

Furthermore, we have developed an extensive practice in labour related disputes, which includes regularly representing clients before the Labour Inspectorate, the Organization of Mediation & Arbitration (in the context of collective bargaining disputes) as well as Courts of all degrees. In this context, our firm is often called upon to act on behalf of employers in relation to invalid dismissal and termination indemnity claims, labour accidents, salary claims as well as actions taken to declare a strike abusive and/or illegal.

  Our recent work in the area of Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution includes the following:

  Distribution Agreement dispute
  We defended an application for interim measures filed against a local distributor asking for the provisional discontinuation of its distribution agreement with an international supplier.

  Union strike litigation
  Our firm successfully represented a large industrial company in its action to declare a long lasting employee strike as illegal.

  Unfair solicitation claims
  We defended a local trading company against claims for damages filed against it by a competitor on account of unfair solicitation of personnel.

  Claims against airlines
  Our firm defended a number of claims for damages filed against airlines arising in the context of carriage of passengers and cargo.

  Group insurance program litigation
  Kommatas & Associates represented a foreign Bank which no longer operates in Greece in a case brought against it by approximately 120 of its former employees. The case involved claims relating to a group insurance program, which the Bank abolished when it transferred its activities in Greece to another bank. Our recent work on the matter included successfully defending the case before the Supreme Court.

  Compulsory enforcement procedures
  Our firm defended a foreign principal in the collection of his debts from his local agent under an agency agreement. Our work involved inter alia, taking action for the confiscation of the debtor’s property held in the hands of local companies.

  Labour Accident litigation
  We represented a major Greek industrial company before the first degree Civil Courts in a 7 million Euro action for damages brought against the Company by the family of a former employee who lost his life in a labour accident at the Company premises.

  Claims for damages on account of defamation
  Kommatas & Associates defended a member of a professional network against a 2 million Euro claim for damages filed by another network member on account of defamation.

  Greek State litigation
  We represent a foreign institution in its claims for damages against the Greek state for failing to observe the required health and safety measures leading to a fatal accident of an employee thereof.

  Recognition of foreign judgement
  Our firm acted on behalf of a foreign investment firm in the declaration of a U.S. court order against a local investor as enforceable in Greece.

  Freezing order
  We defended a local trading company in an application for an injunction filed against it by a raw material producer asking for the freeze of our client’s assets.
